Print made to commemorate the signing of the Treaty of Breda, which brought to an end the Second Anglo-Dutch War (1665–1667) in favor of the Dutch. Delegates in the conference chamber at center; arrival and departure of the English delegation at top and bottom; and topographical scenes of Breda at left and right. With the seas around the south coast of England essentially controlled by the Dutch admiral De Ruyter following the raid on the Medway in 1667, the English were eager to reach a swift agreement. With this treaty, the lands of the New Netherlands were ceded to the English, which created the states of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.
