Notes:
[1] Previously attributed to Bourbon-Conti Family first. See the denial by Wintermute, 154-5. The Bourbon-Conti connection was based on Duveen’s likely incorrect assertion that a later owner, the Comtesse d’Hautpoul, was a descendant of the Bourbon-Conti. An Exhibition of Masterpieces by French Painters, no. 15. The old title of the painting was based solely on this weak assertion.
