By 1927, with Kleinberger Galleries (New York); 22 December 1927, William Randolph Hearst (San Francisco, 1863 - Santa Barbara, 1951), by purchase from Kleinberger Galleries; 1938-1939, with Parish-Watson & Co. (dealer) (New York) [1]; 21 January 1939, Merle J. Trees (Chicago, 1883-1954), by purchase from Hearst through Parish-Watson [2]; December 1940, University of Illinois, by gift from Merle J. and Emily N. Trees.
Notes:
[1] Parish-Watson & Co. acted as art dealers for the liquidation of part of the Hearst collection of art in the late 1930s.
[2] The University of Illinois purchased the painting as a proxy for Trees, who wished to remain anonymous in this transaction.
