Unusual portrait combining the living and dead members of the Orange-Nassau family: the aristocratic ruling house of The Netherlands. On the right, shaded beneath a tree, are deceased members of the family: William I (d.1584), his fourth and last wife Louise de Coligny (d.1620), and two of William's sons, Philip William (d.1618) and Maurice (d.1625). Opposite them are William's surviving son and successor to the stadtholdership: Frederick Henry. He is shown with his family (Amalia of Solms-Braunfels, William II, and Louisa Henrietta). Behind the two main groups, in the center, is a third group: Frederick of the Palatinate, King of Bohemia, his wife Princess Elizabeth (daughter of James I), and their children. After Prague was besieged, they spent many years in exile in the Netherlands. There is a view of The Hague in the background.
